Central Village is an exciting new choice for residents of central Phoenix that will enhance their lives by developing a true spirit of community, a community where members actively exchange their skills, talents and experience. Central Village is not so much a place, but a way of life for members who enjoy and support each other through exchanges and by participating in cultural, social and educational activities and opportunities.
Central Village is centered at Central and Maryland Avenues in Phoenix. Residents living or working within a three mile radius are invited to join. Central Village is based on two successful national models: Villages and Time Banks. There are villages and time exchanges all over the country, but Central Village is the first one in Phoenix.
Central Village is membership-based and members make connections with other members through the Time Bank, where they exchange services and access information about Village events. Membership exchanges and participation in events enhances the lives of members, as it enhances life in our community. The Time Bank operates on “time credits”, where one hour equals one hour, and the belief that everyone has something of value to offer to gain time credits. Sharing our time and talents with other members provides an opportunity to develop valuable relationships and a meaningful network of resources and social opportunities. Our community is enriched through the acknowledgment of our interdependence, while valuing our privacy. Time banking frees up time for you to do the things you enjoy!
Here is an example of a time bank exchange. Martha needs her dog walked every day. Unemployed Keisha has time to walk the dog. Martha loves to bake chocolate chip cookies and provides them for Village social events attended by Keisha.
A Village Time Bank Exchange is a great way to get to know your other members in your neighborhood by doing something you enjoy!
